BRING BACK OUR GIRLS

BBOG.jpg

.Bring back our girls, the now popular hashtag reads.

The Chibok girls kidnapped 1014 days ago,

with about 194 of them still missing

and we demand must be brought back home.

But who will bring back our girls?

The ones who still live under our roofs but are missing nonetheless.

We hold their hands, looking into their eyes,

yet wondering where they must have wandered off to.

Who will bring back our girls?

The ones who should be in class,

But are out on the streets, selling short their dreams,

because only boys grow up to become Presidents?

Who will bring back our girls?

The ones who are held hostage in arranged marriages,

and have become slaves to estranged husbands.

Girls who are constantly apologizing for their innocence.

Who will bring back our girls?

The ones who work in the baby factories

and repeatedly trade off their babies for their own existence.

Girls whose children now call strange women Mother.

Who will bring back our girls?

The ones who are more than just the thing in between their legs.

Girls who would look in the mirror and see that to be beautiful

is more than being covered up in layers of materialism?

Who will bring back our girls?

The ones we invest so much energy in calling fat, ugly

and say can’t amount to anything good.

Girls who have the potential to become good lovers, wives, mothers and leaders?

Who will bring back our girls?

The ones constantly stood up or jilted by menfolk,

simply because they are intelligent, confident

and unapologetic go-getters?

Who will bring back our girls?

The ones not reported missing.

Girls, too many to be numbered

and have been missing much longer than we care to admit.

We can and must bring back these girls

and give them permission to BE.

  1. Reblogged this on Kamnelechukwu Obasi and commented:
Here is to giving our Girls the permission to Be instead of becoming all that the society has for them.
Here is to women all around the world reclaiming their bodies and welcoming themselves back home.

  2. Indeed who will bring them back,I must confess we have a lot to do to give our girls and womentheir rightful place in the society .its on us. What a great work after a long break.keep up the good work.

  3. Very true write up! Many of our girls are indeed missing. Vital question too, who will bring them back? Every one of us has the responsibility to #BringBackOurGirls

  4. Indeed our girls have been missing longer before the tag line took root. What is most disturbing is the fact that all hope is lost as we don’t know how to bring them back. Who should bring them back….. My sincere thoughts, the person is that we see when we look in the mirror.

  6. Bravo Mudi. Well captured and crafted probing questions as to who will bring back our already marooned and the kidnaped chibok girls. The last first,Goverment should do well to rescue them. The marooned, it is our colective responsibity .But we must co-opt GOD to lead us. He is the question answering Spirit
